The wonderful British brands that feature on The Treasured are what make it so special and the first brand that made it on to my 'must stock' list was JillyJilly, so it seemed only right that they feature first on this new 'Meet the Maker' blog series too.
The incredibly lovely Jilly and David create the cutest products from their Falkland studio; with a little help from their adorable dog Daisy of course! Get to know Jilly a little better...
Meet Jilly from the wonderful Scottish brand JillyJilly
How was JillyJilly born?
JillyJilly was born while I was in my final year of art school. Previously I'd held a few exhibitions selling original artworks and attended craft fairs with a jewellery range. I wanted to combine all of my ideas into one brand which focussed on happy gifts. By creating printed products it meant my designs could be more affordable and fun!
What inspires your designs?
My designs are inspired by all things cute and colourful! I love pattern design and collect all sorts of illustration books and vintage fabrics. Often our collections are created with a quote as the main inspiration and from there I'll just doodle ideas. Creating colour palettes is one of my favourite ways to feel inspired!

Which of your products is your favourite?
My favourite constantly changes. It's usually the newest as I can get bored of my past designs sometimes. I do have a soft spot for Every Cloud though as I feel that design is a lovely balance of digital and handmade with the textured pattern elements.
What do you love most about running your own creative business?
I love the freedom of running my own creative business and the sense of achievement we get when we reach a goal, such as gaining a new stockist, and knowing it's all down to us.
What’s the most challenging thing about it?
The most challenging thing is being responsible for everything, especially when things go wrong and you have no boss to turn to for help.
Are there any other creative businesses that you look up to?

What’s next for Jillyjilly?
We're hoping to invest in some new equipment which would mean we could expand the range of products we make. So exciting!
If you could give aspiring creatives one top tip, what would it be?
‘Comparison is the thief of joy’; don’t worry about what everyone else is doing, no good will come from comparing yourself to others.
Other than your designs, which product on The Treasured is your favourite?
I love Pygmy Cloud’s work, their cloud desk tidy is my favourite!
